Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
After exactly one week of enjoying the hell out of the S-5 amp kit, I decided to have the tubes deep-cryo treated, as the results on all my other tubes have been excellent. Then, I said...."what the hell", and took the whole amp to my cryo vendor. Yep....the whole thing, transformers, tubes, and all. I'll pick it up on Monday, and report the results.I still can't believe how good this amp is. It's very even tonally across the spectrum, and extremely musical (and I don't mean euphonic). It's open, spacious, and offers a well-laid out soundstage with good depth. If I were to pick a nit, it doesn't reproduce the "bottom" of some percussive information, such as on snare and plucked bass, but then I'm comparing it with $6800 worth of EAR gear. But I'll find out if that improves with the deep-cryo, as my experiences have shown that more of the musical fabric is displayed after cryogenic treatment.
