Re: 6CK4 versus 2A3 in Push Pull application

What's the problem with a DHT? A simple hum pot with ac heating will get you quiet enough - even on really efficient speakers. I'm running 211's with 10v filaments on ac, and the hum is very minimal.

If you do want IDHT's look at the 6BX7 and 6BL7 as two inexpensive options. Sound Practices had a 6BX7 PP design, I can get you a copy of the article. 6S4 is also a nice tube, and dirt cheap. Bob Danielak has turn'd many of us on to the 1626 with his "Darling" design, and I've heard some really nice PP designs with the 1626.

I'm starting to believe that the perfect system would be a PP triode amp on LF and SET on HF. Best of both worlds...
