There are a handful of dual triodes that are super, 6BX7, 6BL7, 6DN7, 6DR7 just to name a few others. All are inexpensive and fun. Just stick to low voltage, higher current operating points.

I bet the 6EW7 would work fine, but you'll need to play around with it if you want to dc couple the stages. It would be simpler to cap-couple the sections, which remove many of the interactions. Otherwise, figure out your bias point for the first section, built it and confirm the values, then design the second section to be correctly bias'd by the first section.

Then again, if you just want a simple "debug'd" design 6EM7/6EA7's are dirt cheap. There are even higher voltage versions (10EM7/13EM7) as well as Compactron versions that are almost freebee's.
