I also had a pair of the Handwound 10K SE transformers. I'd bet strongly that they are your problem. Plus, putting close to 1Kv on the primary would scare the > heck < out of me.I run a similar circuit with a choke loaded 6C45 driving a 211. My B+ is "lowish" at 825v - but I like the results very much. Outputs are Magnequest FS-100's.
I'm sure others can better explain the challenges of winding a 10K primary transformer that can handle 100ma at greater than 1kv. There are proven and well accepted outputs made by Magnequest, Electraprint, Tango, Tamura and James in this category. All are expensive unfortunately.
