Re: Power Transformer for Preamp

If you're looking to breadboard, look into the various iterations of Heathkit's bench supply.

The PS-4, IP-32, SP-17A, IP-17A and IP-2717 are all essentially the same circuit in various incarnations. All will need recapping before any serious use, but are easy to restore. They use common tubes (6X4, 0A2, 6BH6 and 6L6GC).

Eico also made a similar supply, though I've never owned it personally.

They will give you 6.3v for filament and 0-400vdc, plus a few ma of 0 to -150vdc for bias. If you want to use 2.5v tubes, a HP or Lambda adjustable supply will round out your needs.

HP made the somewhat uncommon 6209B which had 0-320vdc in a small format solid state design. Very cute if you can find one!

I can help out with manuals for most of these - very handy when restoring.

They make design - or breadboarding a breeze! Once you've settled on a final design, break out Duncan Amp's power supply design tool and work out a final design.
