My front yard was struck by lightning Saturday nite. Interestingly the strike was to a small gauge wire that crosses my driveway as part of an abandoned invisible dog fence. The strike missed all of the tall trees, overhead electrical wires and the water well within a few yards of the location. It dug an impressive crater at the site of impact and shattered fragments of asphalt over a 10' circle. It then jumped to an unused underground electrical cable and tracked into my garage. The electrical surge took out several things, including portions of my home alarm system, my computer motherboard and a radon detector.
Impressive is that none of my tube gear (much of which is plugged into the same circuit as the damaged gear) appears injured!
