Doubt you'll be very impressed by differences between 5Z3/5U4 sonically (at least I've never been impressed).

If the ebay adapter goes for more than it's worth, they are trivial to build from a junker 4 pin base and an octal socket.

Just hook up:

Octal......4_Pin
...2........1........Fil
...8........4........Fil
...4........2........Plate
...6........3........Plate

Easier to do than describe but...

Take an octal socket that fits nicely into the top of a 4 pin base. Solder some solid wires onto the appropriate pins and form them to the appropriate holes in the 4 pin base. Use sleeving if they could touch/cross. Then draw the pins down into the base and epoxy the socket inside. Finally solder the pins.

Best to check your wiring by testing the 5U4G with adapter as a 5Z3 in a tube tester.
