I had considered the 6BM8 but was able to locate 6GV8's for around $0.80 each. Pretty funny when the socket costs way more than the tube!

I've also seen "R6" tied to the unregulated side in some circuits. My understanding (which is admittedly limited) is that connecting to the regulated side is easier on the pass tube during warmup. Also in case the amplifier circuit fails this would be a safer option.

I like the 12AU7 as a pass element!
