Take a peek at this 6EM7 design, which you should be able to build for < < $150 if you shop carefully. The only part that wasn't in my junk box was the Hammond 125ESE output transformer (which I picked up used!). Total cost to me was around $30.I still haven't written up the power supply design, largely because I used whatever was lying around (hence the separate chokes on each channel etc).
I use this amp daily at work, driving it directly with a cd player. It fills my office nicely, and really sounds way better than it should.
