I didn't - the effort of disconnecting the power supply and dragging the beast over to my workbench discouraged me! Intellectually I can't understand what the second half would do - especially as the oil cap that follows the choke has such a low ESR that bypassing it should have little effect. Still, caps are pretty cheap and I got lazy.

In any case, the amp is now rather quiet. I had even mounted cap clamps and bridge rectifiers under the chassis as I had expected to eventually go to DC on the filaments. I doubt I'll ever bother.
