Hi, Josh,
I suggest that you buy an used Wadia DAC.
A Wadia X32 will cost you less than $400 and outputs 4 Volts with a very low output impedance. It sounds much better than most low cost current CDPs.
You will be able to get rid of the 1:4 input tranny. Install the S&B inside the amp as input volume controls, or better still, use a pair of the MAGNETICS GURU autoformers, they sound much better than S&B, because there is no galvanic isolation. Frequency response is earthquake to bat whistle.
In case you are wondering, the Mag Guru is Dave Slagle.
I have made two preamps with his autoformers, they beat hands down a DIY Berman 76/6SN7 preamp, a DIY battery 7308 tube preamp and several commercial tube preamps.
I have never heard better sound from an attenuator, and I have tried most of them: Alps, Goldpoint, TKD, Dact, etc.
Standard disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Dave besides admiration for his fine work.
