Re: diy 45 tube tester ?

Steve Bench's site has a DIY tube tester, easily adapted to 45's etc. There's a link to Steve's site on my webpage.

Alan Douglas's Book on Tube Testers and test equipment (available thru Sonoran publishing http://www.sonoranpublishing.com/) has great info on tube testing circuits and curve tracing.

It's almost trivial to set up a small test rig with bench power supplies. You'll need B+, Bias and filament supplies. One of the older heathkit bench supplies will give you 0-400vdc, 0 - -100vdc bias and 6.3v for filament. They are especially nice as they have current meters. An adjustable (HP or Lambda) DC supply will give you filament.

Just set up B+ to plate, Bias to filament and filament and measure plate current at known operating points.

Lastly a Hickok (Military) I-177 will test most of the tubes you're looking at and aren't especially expensive as they are older and won't handle 9 pin tubes (without the much less common adapter). It is a mutual conductance tester.
