Hi, amnesiac. The RCA theater amplifiers from 1939 were mostly
P-P 2A3 and sometimes 45. In the Deluxe houses these amps
which took up most of rack or more would drive a power amp
consisting of an input transformer and P-P 845. These classic
amplifiers have a lot of soul. Motion picture bandwidth topped
out at 10,000 Hz. It is a matter of speed of soundtrack past
the sound head. 24 frames per second translates to roughly
90 feet per minute. There was some experimentation done using
ultra-violet light and special optics in the sound camera to
push the high end a bit. It worked but did not become a standard.
This schematic is nice inspiration and a good place to start.
