This is my current amp, and I just love the piano sound. For some reason the 4P1L does piano really well. The circuit itself is ridiculously simple and 4P1Ls are cheap. The two transformers - interstage and OPT - need to be good, though, and in particular the filament supplies for filament bias need to be uber-clean. Filaments of the 4P1L are wired in parallel for 2v. No economising or cutting corners - it's all audible in filament bias. The benefit of this design is no coupling caps and no cathode bypass caps and just 2 stages. Very clean and transparent sound.
