Good observation. This supports my contention that when a particular trick works well sometimes and badly others it means there are factors that aren't being taken into account.
To make real progress on this front, people need to step back and consider the bigger picture. It's like if alien scouts landed in my driveway and sent home the following report:
"Earth is a cold planet with an average daily temperature of 25F. The ground is uniformly covered by frozen water crystals. The predominant life form is a bipedal light-pink colored organism..."
And so on.
