Jeff, hi. My advice? Try it. You might like it. Same thing with an interstage transformer. I slowly progressed an amp (my favorite) through RC choices and finally IT. It is now one triode section of ECC99 and Type 45 tube as final. Could not believe the benefits. Transient smearing gone. Phasey effects from running audio through a cap gone. Spectral balance much improved. Regarding input trans? This was the final pleasant shock. Again, much improved spectral balance and ease of presentation and on and on. It would seem the grid of first tube really likes seeing some L. The input trans also gives a nice constant to what ever is driving it. A thought. In our RF and other electrically polluted envirionment an input trans isolates the grid from this audio ruining garbage. Don't stop with the input transformer unless and until you have also implemented interstage transformer coupling. Ultimately your ears won't lie. And, have fun! Happy Listening.
