R & C choices

mingles, hi. As you have no doubt concluded these are sensitive areas. Let's consider C. My Mundorf experiences have varied widely. Excellent performance in speaker networks. Insufferable sound in RC coupling. I have been thinking of putting these Dorf's into the power supply just to stress the dialectric. Anyway, your milage will vary. I would strongly urge you to consider trying the RU K-40Y. I would try them where the PPMFX are now. In place of the Bennic I would go with Rel Cap TFT. Also consider the Solon Teflon film and tin foil. Use the K-40's going to the output tube grids. Now the question of R. I am partial to precision wire wound 1% and precision 1% carbon film. There are excellent choices without breaking the bank. The Vishay S102 are excellent though exactly how they will sound in your circuit remains to be heard. I have used them successfully (they sounded good) and unsuccessfully (they sounded bad) depending on individual circuit. Don't do both C and R changes at the same time and don't do them willy nilly. Have a plan. Do the C first. Then you'll be surprised to find out how important R choices can be. Lots of people like tants, Caddock mixed oxide films, and whatever else. I can only tell you what I gravitate towards because I have achieved wonderful sound with them - precision wire wound (non-inductive wind is a plus but don't obsess over it) and precision carbon film. Mills are super. I tend to shun metal oxides and metal film. A mono-culture never is a good idea. Try and listen. Try and listen. That's the way. Your ears are an excellent instrument. Learn to use them and be a happier listener.
