Pix, hi. I would investigate the single ended outputs being engineered under guidance of Meno Vanderveen. Plitron of Canada is winding his designs in North America. I know there is an EU company (Netherlands?) doing the same. I hear there are even Ag versions in addition to Cu though very costly. I have SET amps with iron by: One Electron, Electra-Print, MagneQuest, Audio Note, and the old Tango. I like all of them for different reasons. Ranking "best" is difficult if not impossible. A friend has built with Vanderveen Plitrons. He thinks they are they ne plus ultra. Have you considered Lundahl or Tribute? At least they are more in your back yard. I think they are doing amorphous. How low in price can you go and still have quality? That is a question for the ages. There are so many other variables that directly affect sound quality besides output iron.
