RE: Has anyone here used Jantzen Z-Silver Capacitors

Paully, hi. Still have the Dyna Stereo 70? I needed 6.8uF of capacitance for a loudspeaker project and decided to bite the bullet and buy Mundorf Silver Supreme. At the same time I bought a couple of flush price Solen 0.68 tin foil and polypropylene. The price on these was at least 1/2 SRP. I paid the going rate for the Mundorfs. I was pleased enough with this application that I again laid down the long green for some 0.22 Mundorf Silver Supreme. I was curious to try them in a couple of home built parallel 300B amps as stage couplers. I had settled on Rel-Cap TFT for the first coupler and Jensen copper foil & oil for the second. As I had redone the 5 V filament supply on these I wanted to hear what all the lather was about regarding the Mundorfs. Each amp has a 5AR4 with polypropylene & oil caps, Black Gates, US Military surplus chokes and power transformer. It is one section of 6SN7 coupled to SRPP 6SN7 coupled to output grids. Output transformers are Audio Note 30W 2.1K. They sound quite good - perhaps a hair recessed, but good. I'm looking to rework with an interstage and minus SRPP - perhaps with WE 101 or 102 or 272. Bluntly, the Mundorf 0.22 Silver Supreme caps provided me with one of the most underwhelming moments in my lifetime of listening to music through loudspeakers. I could not tolerate ten minutes. Out they came. Out of sheer cussedness I installed the bargain priced Solen tin foil and polyprop. They sounded better than with the Mundorfs - no contest, hands down, flat out better. Thanks to Mikey Samra's arm twisting and doggone serious enthusiasm I finally was led/browbeat to try the Russian K-40-Y PIO hermetically sealed military grade cap. Glass seals. Aluminum tube body. Lead out is high grade copper tinned single strand.
I am still attempting to get the measure of the K-40-Y caps. Even in switching this one 0.22 coupler in my amps the sound was improved on a scale I would not have believed possible unless I heard it myself. Mikey wants me to sub the Rel-Cap TFT Teflon tin foil in the first position. I will, eventually. If you have to do RC coupling if you do not try the RU K-40 type you have missed the boat. I worry about what, exactly, is the oil inside these. Perhaps there is a chemist among us who can analyze. The RU K-40 is nothing short of a wow. I am rethinking the whole notion of RC coupling. Paully, if you are burning to try some better couplers in a circuit where the cap is going to see some B+ my advice is: try the K-40.
