RE: Balanced Power Units a Must in this day and age.

Mikey is right. I heard about this thing called balanced power back about 1997 or so when Equi=Tech was beginning to offer products to a wider audience. There is so much hype, B.S., and razzle-dazzle connected to things audio I tend to approach any new high buzz products (buzz as in, what's the buzz, cuz?) with a doubting Thomas attitude. In Missouri this is called, Show Me. Anyway. Along the way I acquired a couple of balanced power products, one a Monster and one a 2KVA Equi=Tech 2Q. What noticeable and wonderful changes were wrought by these big transformered devices. You get the double benefit of: a. isolation from the mains and b. balanced power. All devices that take wall AC and turn it into DC loved the balanced power. In particular there were changes for the better in DAC's and everything running any logic - TV, DVD, etc. All my tube amps benefitted from the change to balanced power. I was not prepared for how dramatic an improvement it was to go from raw off the grid stuff and isolated/balanced. This was a significant change. In the course of events I came to try and convince Mikey Samra that he too should at least listen to what benefits an isolation/balanced power unit can do. At long last after months and months Mikey finally brought a balance power/isolation device home and left stuff plugged into it enough that he could hear the improvement. As Mikey found out, it wasn't subtle. It was right out front and big as life. As power grids become more polluted these isolation/balanced power devices will become a necessity. To those who have heard the difference they already are. I cannot imagine anyone building a playback system or for that matter a recording studio without it. All the technical info is on the Equi=Tech web site. I encourage everyone to check it out. I'd also Google around a bit on the subject. Roger Nichols of Steely Dan fame had a nice piece in a UK recording magazine in 2006 on the subject.
