Re: Bypass cap question

sherod, hi. I mentioned the Reliable TFT as a top candidate. Why? This cap does not use metalized film. It is Teflon film and tin foil construction. While I might use a metalized polyprop cap in a power supply I would not for signal coupling. Download Michael Percy Audio's catalog in pdf form off his site. The file is dense so have patience with the download before printing. Check out the Rel Cap Exotica - Teflon & tin foil and also polyprop & copper foil. Even the Multicap polystyrene & tin (RTX) are superb. They cost a lot less than the Exotica. The RTX are an excellent choice. There are some who prefer polystyrene film caps to polyprop. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule on this. It all depends on the circuit. If you are wanting oil filled (which I don't recommend for a pre-amp) I would try some Jensen copper foil & oil. I have had good results with these in power amps and mention as an option. It is my feeling that bypassing is akin to whistling in the dark and may actually be degrading.
