What I have found works much better is a cap and resistor in series, the combination across the secondary. Jim Hagerman has a nice article on this on his web site. This damps the resonance of the transformer so the noise from the diodes won't excite ringing.
Jim has a whole section on measuring the transformers and coming up with precisely the right value for your transformer. I did this for about 20 different transformers and found that one combination works pretty well for all of them. .02uf and 330 ohms. Now I use polypropylene caps (orange drops usually) and 1/2 watt carbon comps, but thats not really that critical.
With this across the secondary it doesn't ring even with the noise from the diodes trying to excite it.
It works very well, is simple and cheap. I just put it on all my transformers now. (I did find a couple transformers had so much internal losses they didn't need the extra damping!)
