Why not go out in the field and make your own master tapes?

There have been many postings concerning recording from LPs and FM and playing back prerecorded tapes. Why not go out and make your own master tapes with simple mic setup and a decent mic mixer(unless you have good mic preamps in your deck). It can be very ear opening hearing good original master tapes. Fairly decent condenser mics(from China) can be had for under $100 now. Add in some Canare mic cables and stands and you are ready to go. I started 20 years ago with a Tandberg TD-20A SE and went to Ampex 351. Only used the Ampex 3 times and figured it would be best for my back to get a lighter deck. Using reel decks for playing back prerecords and making long mix tapes from LPs(or CDs) is all well and good, but masters are it! There are lots of up and coming musicians that will let you record them. Get out in the field and give it a try.
