The B&O ribbons are stock in every way. Just picked it up on ebay a few months ago. I am going to send them to Clarence Kane to get them checked out. Will likely leave them alone, as they seem fine.
I think a bit of treble boost in the top octave would help out the ribbons. The AEA has 72db of clean gain and was designed to amplify the wimpy output of ribbons. I liked the sound, but prefer the spaced omnis for recording the orchestra. My Ampex MX-10 does not have adequate gain for the ribbons. I am hoping to post a sample of the ribbon recording next week, after some website maintenance.
The FLK mics are limited edition Pearl mics with custom electronics done by my friend in Japan. They are tube based and do not have any capacitors in the circuit path. I believe they are the only tube mics with this feature. About 12 FLKs have been made so far. The FLK team is working with a new radical pentagonal capsule. Should be interesting. Still, I am lusting for a pair of Neumann M-150s. They are my dream microphone for orchestral recording.
