the main reason is cost and lack of 12 inch reels. Top priority for me was to get a clean recording and not have to worry about running out of tape or having other analog 'issues'. Recording to solid state media with hard drive back up is almost 100% reliable. Client could not give the proverbial 'rat's ass' about analog. It is also a major headache taking the analog decks out in the field. Reason enough not to use analog. If I had another assistant and more dollars, analog would have been used. Not many location engineers use analog, even if they are pro-analog.
