First recording was last evening and it went great. No analog due to lack of 12 inch reels. Set up for the orchestra were two close spaced Omni tube mics(FKM) going into the Manley mic preamps and then into the line inputs of the Sound Devices 722 at 24/96. Good stereo with about 12 inch spacing surprised me. I've never done this close a spacing on omni, but I am now a believer. I had a slight disagreement with the conductor/fortepiano soloist over the use of an accent mic on the piano. The instrument did not have a lid and he insisted on not having any mics in sight. It still went very well without the accent mic.
Tonight will be a 'shoot-out' with the FKM mics versus the new Neumann digital mics. The next recording after that is at Reed College Kaul Auditorium on Sunday afternoon, so it looks like analog will not be happening this time.
