HI Richard
I would like to try a refurbished mx-10 with upgraded transformers and parts. My next preamps will be tube based with cinemag input and output transformers. I did not like the Millenia much- a bit too sterile for my application.
The Chinese mics are the $89 Marshal MXL-2001s. I'm going to put some better parts and mod them a bit- think they will be more than decent with some tailoring and damping of the body and head capsule.
I'm pretty much set for microphones now and the next step will be the mic preamps and possibly Lavry A/D converters. Hope to get the Lyrec out for my next orchestral recording in May. I'm doing a digital recording in NY in two weeks of a Jazz Quintet. We will likely use a Stellavox SM-8 and my Sound Devices 722 with two independent mic set ups. This will be at the new Frank Gehry hall at Bard college. It was completed right before the Disney Hall in LA.
