Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: Thanks, Dave...

For me, I didn't like the sound of kitty litter at all when experimenting with our own stands we developed. I needed something with a higher density and was very happy with sand in the end. I think kitty litter is known to work well to dampen stands for speakers with lossy cabinets, such as Harbeth, that typically prefer not to be placed on heavily mass loaded stands. For many other speakers, depending on design of course, I think a more dense material, such as sand, is better. From what I remember, with kitty litter, the bass was sloppier and didn't have the weight and solidity as with sand.
