RE: They are not floor standers, so why might they be boxy?

The 7's can sound a tad boxy in a large room -- which likely has to do with the slight dip in their upper mids. Put those same speakers in a room with sidewalls closer by (and a lower ceiling in my case) and the boxiness disappears. The room boundaries compensate for the dip, by design, I am told. I don't believe the 3's (or 30's or 40's) have the dip -- they were designed to be essentially flat monitors, at least through the midrange...
