That doesn't tell you much about what the 40E's sound like, does it? Especially if you don't know the 42's. Let's use more widely known references.
The KLH SIX, Advents, Celestion SL's, and Audio Note K/SPes w/rubber surrounds had a slightly closed in sound which is what we liked about them, though we wouldn't have put it that way. Their slightly crisp warmth made them feel intimate and emotional.
The KLH Five (and 12) and later Celestions sounded and the K/SPes with foam surrounds sound more open, objective, transparent.
The Tocaro 40E's have some of the quality and appeal of the Six, SL, Advent, and early K/SPe's, though they tell more: they are faster, more tactile, and their bass is clearer. The 42's are more open, objective, and transparent.
