RE: How long does it take to break in the new driver on the Tocaro 40s?

My new 40E drivers sounded good out of the box, progressively better as the day wore on. The prognosis is that they will get continually better on a long slowly rising curve, which describes the break-in of my 42's, which had the "E" drivers from the start. The whole hullabaloo (begun by me) about Tocaro 40D break-in was a problem with the D driver itself, which has been dealt with through a fairly modest but extremely effective upgrade.

To answer your earlier question about the new 40's sound, the 40E's do not sound like compromised versions of the 42E's. They have slightly less dramatic bass and less sparkle on top. They are, in a word, less sonically complete. As the 42E's are less sonically complete than the double-woofer 45's. But they have a compellingly natural sound all of their own, presumably a product of their being truly single drivers speakers. If I had only 40E's, I would feel no compulsion to spend $5000 more for 42E's, though I'm sure some completests would. I will use these 40's as my reference speakers for quite a while before I switch back to the 42's. And I will probably switch mainly because I can.
