RE: Question of age?

I agree that hearing tapers with age but the responses to Reynauds, Audio Notes, and Tocaros here don't seem to follow any age lines. And to tell the truth, the Tocaros don't go higher or emphasize treble. The Reynauds' ribbon tweeters go to 25K. It's not brightness that characterizes Tocaros, it's their directness. Some of my older customers seem drawn to Audio Notes because they prioritize beauty, younger ones seem to like the excitement of the Bliss Silvers and Offrandes from JMR. But the response to Tocaros seems to having nothing to do with age. I don't think mine does either, but who knows? I prefer Crimson copper interconnects to Audio Note silver, even on AN gear, if that tells us anything.

A friend of mine, John Geisen of Wellington Audio in West Palm Beach, who sells Audio Note and Reynaud (and Harbeths and others I'm not aware of) and who has had Tocaros in his shop and heard them extensively at RMAF, feels that my suggestion that Tocaros don't have fullness is not quite right. He's reading this conversation and just wrote to say that the 40's have fullness when it's in the music, just not when it's not. "The only speaker that I think is somewhat similar is the original Quad 57's which has many other non-musical issues such as limited dynamics."

For what it's worth, John had the same initial impression of Tocaros that I did for the same reasons, his head full of AN, Harbeth, and more recently JMR.
