Did you fill them with half masonry sand and half lead shot? Do they go thuck when you tap them? I have never used anything but AN stands filled thusly and have no complaints. But probably somebody somewhere should be a guinea pig and try some wooden or MDF stands, if only to prove PQ right. Who knows?
I once tried Audio Note K stands under Reynaud speakers in place of JMR Magic stands, which are essentially MDF though with a Helmholtz resonator. The bass foundation seemed more pronounced but the midrange went to hell. I "decided" that the new foundation was a pleasing distortion and that the screwed up midrange was a displeasing one and went back to the Magic Stands. The AN stands were filled with sand and lead.
I'd bet on AN stands for AN speakers but would still like some guinea pig to volunteer.
