The thing is, the best small speakers can go nearly as deep as the big boys, they just can't move as much air down there. They can hit the notes fine. My standmounted JMR Offrandes go to 30 Hertz. On a single acoustic bass, they can impress the hell out of you. But they can't move enough air to compete with my floorstanding Orféos on full orchestras. There's bass information and bass energy. That's the way Jean Claude Reynaud puts it when he's making that comparison.
