That's the right question, surely. A number of people do live with them - and a greater number live with the Rehdeko speakers which in some respects were Tocaros' progenitors. Both pick their owners carefully. "Live with" suggests the domestic setting, which is not the concert hall or the jazz club, and that's the issue, isn't it. Most folks, when it comes down to it, don't want music as it sounds in performing venues in their homes, though they may claim otherwise. (Or they claim that their speakers achieve that, when they likely don't.) The objections to Tocaros (and Rehdekos) tend to run that way: Man, that's an amazing painting but I wouldn't want it in my living room. But maybe you would. And praise of these speakers runs that way: I want that amazing painting in my living room.A lot of what fascinates me about Tocaros (I've never heard Rehdekos) is just that. They raise a question that doesn't get raised very often. Do our speakers really sound like live music -and do we really wish they did?
Speaking for myself, I don't know the answer, which I hope is evident in what I wrote. That's what makes me suspect that these speakers, for better and for worse, really do achieve something pretty close to the real thing. If they didn't, they wouldn't be something to talk about.
