Spendors, from the BC 1 to the SP 2/2's are all lovely sounding speakers. If that's your priority, and it's not at all a bad one, you won't find many better, at least that I know of. The compromises they make in relation to 'reality' are reasonable ones and all are in the direction of pleasing us without cloying, not as easy as it sounds. I think they're complements are Harbeths: they pretty much mark the two ends of the classic British sound spectrum, which isn't all that wide. The British lord and his lovely and more personable wife. Some would cast the Quad as the lord's unmarried sister, making her the Spendor's maiden aunt. Fair enough. Some maiden aunts are umarried by choice, by the way, so I don't consider this a slur at all.
