Soulfood, it is not my place to carry Duke's flag for him but I'm not sure you understood what he was saying. I read his "not conventional" as relating to the inherent speaker design (90 degree radiation) and then room placement (45 degree toe-in). That is quite different than listening to an unconventional soundstaging and tonal balance.
As a point of interest, Duke's suggestion for the 45 degree toe-in was recommended by James Bongiorno over 30 years ago, and for the same two stated reasons. I don't remember if Bongiorno addressed radiation pattern as part of his reasoning but they were Magnepans in his demo I attended.
