Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

A couple of questions for you, Duke...

It would seem like the audiophile has to work too hard at times. Often times, he (or she) must make do with loudspeakers that sound good only if room treatments are used. I can only think of one or two loudspeaker manufacturers that seem to be trying hard to make loudspeakers that are made to be "room friendly" and versatile (as far as placement options and dispersion characteristics go). In your opinion, what is the best way to make a loudspeaker that is "room friendly"? And, if we want to create a truly versatile loudspeaker, is it necessary to settle for a design that is (as the saying goes...), "Jack of all trades, master of none"?
