RE: Material for Speaker Stands?

Coner, Cinder blocks are very ugly and I wouldn't give one house room. The beauty of concrete is that you can cast it in any shape, check mine out at http://concretespeakerstands.com/2010/01/concrete-speaker-stands/
Filling a tube that resonates with damping does help, but it doesn't tackle the problem at source. It's the solution that companies try to sell us but there are better solutions. It's rather like driving your car on solid tyres, and then having to put a softer suspesion to compensate.
