Hi,
I use 20" height custom made stand with large top plate (11" x 11") for mine SHL5 with decent result in a small room some years back.(I still keep the SHL5 as this pair is a 25th anniversary AS signature model)
IMHO, 18" to 20" stand height is about right for both the SHL5 and Spendor SP1/2.
