RE: good speakers ... Do your homework!

Sorry I don't have a 'quick fix' like most of the others here have proffered up. I'm going to assume that you have at least some kind of speakers to listen to presently ... if not, I would say find some el cheapo, used < $50/pair so you have *something* to listen to while you educate your ears.

While others have given you advice of great and good deals about brands and models *they* found and like ... you may hate them! I'm also going to assume that your budget represents a major purchase for you that you want to do 'right' the first time ... so take the time to educate your ears. Hopefully you have reasonable access to an "audio salon" or two. All it costs is a little time to go listen to what they have. Don't be afraid to listen to stuff w-a-y over your budget, that will show you what's 'possible' and give you a 'best case baseline'. In short, the more speakers you listen to and evaluate, the better educated your ears will become. The type(s) of music you like should also play a significant role in your decision.

Oh, and lurk here frequently ... there is a lot more to be gained by doing so than just getting recommendations.

Try to view this excersize more as a journey than a destination and I think you will be money and pleasure ahead of the game ... good luck!
