Polks are generally pretty decent for mass-market.
Used is a great way to go, though, you can get some great bargains. Polk Monitor 5 Jr. pop up sometimes and are a bargain and a half- a great little speaker.
You can also keep your eye out for older infinity kappas- the ones with the felt-covered baffles, they're a good solid speaker.
Bass is supposed to sound big. 6.5" is not a woofer size.
