Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: Pics of similar unit...

It looks to me as though the top step from the entry must be quite wide so provided the speaker is reasonably close to the wall, there is plenty of space to get by.

Your tall speakers are going to be much less overbearing close to the wall and a plant on the top step beside your left speaker may solve the aesthetic issue.

One acoustic advantage of this layout is that you largely get rid of direct sidewall reflections to your listening position because both sidewalls will be angled 45 deg away from the speakers.

If the revised layout looks as though it might work, I would try moving the existing speakers and the couch to get a better sense of whether appearance and sound are better or worse than your existing layout.

If it works better then you can think about whether substituting the right smaller speakers might be a further improvement that is worth the cost of change.

I would sort out location before changing speakers because your existing location needs speakers located 3ft from the wall and the alternative location works better with speakers that are happy close to the wall.
