RE: Downsizing from Dunlavy SC-IIIs and San Diego area speaker hunting

In a condo, I think that is important to be able to listen without the bottom octave when noise is likely to be intrusive to neighbors.

I would think in terms of a good speaker (probably a standmount) that rolls off below 40 hz and couple it with a good subwoofer setup.

It's amazing what a difference this rolloff makes to sound transmission into other spaces when the doors are closed and it will permit you to play much louder without affecting the neighbors. You can always switch on the sub when the music demands it and/or it won't bother your neighbors.

Depending on your room dimensions, you may also have a better chance of tuning down the primary resonance frequency (bass boom) with this setup.

It would help people give good advice if you could give info on actual room dimensions and any limitations on speaker placement.
