Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Yes and no

As a materials engineer, I'm well aware of raw material and fabrication costs. It's mainly a function of "economy of scale" here. If you've got a pretty automated process as is often the case with metalworking then fabrication costs go down. Steel prices have gone up big time but not if someone like Target bought their stocks a few years ago. So they don't transfer that cost on to the consumer. Skylan AFAIK is a one-man operation (Noel) and he builds to order from scratch. So the bottom line price is whatever he sets it at based on his time and effort. Such is often the case in audio. Also, Target stands are made in the far east where fab costs are very low. Remember that. Skylan is made in Canada.
