Have you used actual nightstands as speaker stands? Put some sand or a couple of cinder blocks in those drawers, that will dampen the nightstands really well.Another cheap alternative would be purchase some square mdf cabinets, stack them (one on top of the other) and use them as speaker stands. If you are worried about dampening, again sand and cinder blocks would do the trick.
Or better yet, a couple of weeks ago, Staples put their own branded bookshelves on sale. I think it was something like $9.99 per bookshelf. Get a couple of those, stack them, or put them in whatever configuration you like. Fill out the empty shelves with sandbags or cinder blocks. Those would make great speaker stands.
Those alternatives are MUCH less expensive than either the Skylan or the Tyler Acoustics solutions.
