I used them with both Audio Note speakers and Noel will custom make them for you. I had a chance to get the AN stands at a discount and took them because they are directly designed for the speakers. They are metal.
I can't say which would be better because I could not do a direct comparison but the metal stands for the AN's were sand filled by the dealer and there is no detectable ringing. I don't really see the basis for the argument. MDF typically sucks the life out of everything - I have yet to hear a good speaker made out of MDF and top turntables don't use it as platter. MDF is a cheap compromise.
Ask Harbeth directly what they recommend. I can see a possibility that either of those finalists could be better depending on the speaker - that's assuming you believe that stands have an influence on sound quality at all - if not buy the less expensive one which will be Skylan I bet.
