RE: Harbeth Compact 7es

For bass punch and control in a smaller room, I would go with lightweight stands as opposed to high mass a la Soundanchor.

I also think that any and every steel stand will ring. I can't say Soundanchors loaded with their proprietary mix will ring or not but I've owned several really good high mass steel stands and, loaded with sand (and a sand-lead shot mix in one case), they ALL rang.

A couple of options for you here:

1) contact Timbernation.com and get a price on maple butcherblock speaker stands. He's made them in a variety of configurations, including a really cool one that looked like 3-post Soundanchors. The advantage here is he can build them to your *precise* height requirement. Harbeths are popular in Japan and wooden stands are a popular choice over there with them. So evidently there's some synergy involved. I almost bought a pair of Timbernation maple stands myself but elected instead to buy ...

2) Skylan Stands. I've owned 2 pairs of these over the years. Get the 4 post jobs. Noel will build the top plate to perfectly match your Harbeths. And you can try them empty or loaded at various levels with sand. You don't have to worry about these ringing without sand loading since they're polymer and mdf. They're reasonably priced and you get the advantage of two stands in one: high mass and low mass (and anything in between), without worry of ringing.

3) Reference 3a: adjustable, low mass speaker stands made of mdf and ply. Good stands. Owned a pair until recently. I was tired of buying new stands with every speaker I wanted to try (a revolving door of late). Reasonably priced, too. I sold the last pair of Skylans and bought these.

4) Tyler Acoustics: he custom mades speaker stands out of mdf. Built to order so you get them in the height and top plate dimensions you need. Normally sprayed standard black but he'd probably veneer them for an upcharge. Sand loadable so you can do the same thing with various sand loadings as I mentioned with Skylans. Being mdf, no ringing.
