Other than its probably not going really loud, it's hard to believe you are not enjoying what your current setup does, but you ask, so, at the risk of steering you to a possibly lesser destination, here goes...
The Renaissance Duet I use are musical, natural and easy to drive. When I first heard them, my first thought was that they sounded normal, conventional, almost old-fashioned, somehow. But they are smooth, and rarely unpleasant or strained sounding, and I have grown to like them very much. I suspect the rest of my system is largely not up to them. However, they do have a rather full bass/midbass that you may find you would need to tame, so I hesitate to recommend them.
A better bet might be the older versions of the Merlin TSM, used, into which you might be able to bargain your way. Other brands to consider (in addition to the other good suggestions you have gotten) would be ProAc, Tannoy (coaxials), and NSM (including Role Audio).
