Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Dunlavy SC 1 AV

I have been looking at a pair of Dunlavy SC1 AV speakers and would appreciate some feedback from people who know them better than I do.

I've only listened to them on 20" stands and slightly angled in

My initial impression are:

The good:
neutral, detailed, good soundstage, no sibilance problem,no boom
efficient for a smaller speaker,
nice appearance and build quality,
apparently have a first order crossover and should be easy to drive

Possible issues:
Seem to have a very small window for optimum listening. (It seems to be important to have your ears verticaly in line with the central tweeter so that the woofers above and below it are equidistant from your ears);
May need a good sub to sound their best?
May not be as tolerant of upstream components as some other speakers? (not sure how this matches with easy to drive)
Replacement of parts if something fails? (Dunlavy no longer in business and part of their magic may is probably the component matching and setup done when they were first manufactured.

If anyone has had these and changed to something else, I'd be interested in what they changed to and why.

If anyone has an idea of what they are worth I'd be very interested.
I didn't find any past sales as an indicator
2003 Orion lists them in light oak as 1996, New List $1495, Retail $372 but the prices for different finishes and other versions seem to be all over the place. I find that Orion can be quite a bit off on some things.

Thanks for any help.

David
